I find it so disheartening when I hear a woman say that they need to change the way they look or the way they dress because of a new job, because they're now a mother, a wife, or perhaps because they've reached a certain age. This woman probably feels that they can no longer express themselves through fashion and so have lost the very essence of who they are by trying to conform to societal ideals.
I used to be this woman -dressing to stereotypical standards. I was corporate at work, "bling" when I went out and preppy with family friends -but I wasn't always comfortable with what I was wearing and why I was wearing it.
Then I realised that the real me should be true to herself, no matter the scenario. I love to experiment with different looks; I love colour -it's not just reserved for the summertime; I love gorgeous patterns; I love mixing and matching high street with vintage fashion. So why couldn't I celebrate what I really loved?
Once I'd acknowledged all this, I began dressing more confidently, I got back my personal sense of style... I'd found myself again.
